AM Radio 1200 WOAI radio said last night, police responded in four mins, but waited an hours??? till Border Patrol ??? got there....with body armor, that took an hour while he was in there doing his killing. He did shoot a couple of police when they first got there, and did shoot the BP agent that took him down and killed him. All LEO recovering. Why didn't they just storm the building>????
I agree we need MUCH better control over who gets to possess a gun. In all states. A one time pee in the cup test is likely just a marginal improvement. Some folks think you should "harden" the schools, make them fortresses, guards on the doors. That is going over board. Humans and their kids don't want to be locked up and under guard.
I see nothing wrong with just locking the the darn doors and having a vice principal in charge of this at start and during the day. Every vice principal should have an employment contract requiring ability to shoot a semi-automatic weapon of his choice and ability to kill another human if the school is confronted and to carry a weapon at ALL times.
The real answer lies in our families. The SOURCE of the problem. These school shootings are a symptom. What is wrong with our families? :
-- Father's not in the home is likely #1. How to fix: Social and real penalties for impregnating a woman and not supporting her, same for proven abuse of a wife and heavier penalty for a mother. Penalties should extend to Father's family. He should be under heavy motivation to NOT hurt a mother including social pressure from family. Father's leaving a mother should be followed legally across state lines and returned and forced to work. If that includes working on a community clean up program to earn money for the mother and family, so be it.
-- More support for REAL churches, ie not cults. More support for folks who want to send kids to parochial schools. Anything that strengthens the nuclear family needs support and anything that hurts it needs to be torn down-- ie BLM, CRT, transgender crazy-ness.
-- Return of mental institutions; ability for families to place nut cases in them with less push back from professionals but subject to some rigid review process so folks are not put in them for years without good cause. Something that WORKS.
-- Cops need to be logging continued calls to homes with no fathers where teen to 20 yr olds live and moving to get nutcases in institutions. It is too late for them after growing up with no fathers. They are bombs waiting to happen. This kid and the one in Connecticut are perfect examples of poor family, no father, and lack of facility to control these people AWAY from innocents.
-- It should be against FEDERAL law for any person under 26 to own a gun. Use a gun under parent's supervision only if BOTH parents are in the home but only if OVER 18. Teaching kids to hunt and kill below that age is simply stupid. They do NOT need to do that; find another outlet. I own several gun but believe strongly it is not necessary for young men, teenagers to possess or use guns on a regular basis.
Debatable of course, but somehow our society needs protection from the ten years during a man's early life where he is most likely to behave with only his frontal cortex directing him. This is not workable everywhere, I will admit. Rural families need another "system".
Set and setting figures in too. Harden the schools and put up signs that they’re hardened. No more shootings.

Police have no duty to protect you - a SCOTUS statement.

Having a police force that is not full of cowards and bureaucracy helps a lot. Apparently, it is coming out the cops were confronted by families outside demanding they go in or allow the families to go in. They were NOT advancing against the suspect. Cowards in my view. https://mises.org/wire/police-botched-uvalde-standoff-now-gun-controllers-want-give-police-more-power
