There are no “safe” recreational drugs!!

A few years ago, sitting on a hospital committee meeting, someone made a motion to do cognitive testing on all doctors on staff over 70 yrs of age. I pointed out the legal risk due to federal age discrimination laws, but supported the need to make sure all providers were safe I attempted to amend it to include ALL doctors and nurses, no matter age AND to include a urine screen for drugs randomly in all docs and nurses. Just like the military!! You coulda heard a pin drop, then a committee member (doctor) stated “wait a minute- maybe somebody went to colorado and attended a party!!! To which I responded - “Weed is not legal in Texas nor by federal law and I would never send a patient to any doctor who is dabbling in weed - shows terrible lack of values and total loss of common sense” then another pin drop moment, and I was told to be quiet and the committee voted for the age testing. I voted “no” several docs sat on their hands. Administrators wanted it passed. It did. I won’t tell you the hospital or town but would bet that your local big hospital has been down the same road with the same result.

Now we have a terrible school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Heck I used to moonlight on weekends in their Emergency Room! I have family in that area. Please pray for the families. Know that the San Antonio level I trauma center is fabulous. They unfortunately had to take care of the Southerland Springs Church shooting victims as well.

We cannot remove evil from the world, but we need to think about ways to protect the most vulnerable- school kids.

Just reading news reports, the shooter was a local kid, dropped out of school at 16, worked at a fast food and saved money to buy weapons. I actually thought we had an age limit required of 21-but he assed the background check and the rest is history. Apparently he was mad at his grandmother for restricting his use of “weed”- wonder if he was on other psychogenic meds.

We need to stop this insanity of liberalizing drugs. >110.000 fentanyl deaths last year???? Seems most shooters are on drugs of some kind. Heck I say we make gun purchasers pee in a cup. It works in the military .
