As I remember back to getting a marriage license in 1969 with my bride, we had to get fingerprinted and also have a negative test (blood draw) for syphilis. I hear they don’t do that anymore.
As I remember, when I became a flight surgeon, the USAF collected blood and a mouth swab for DNA and not only fingerprinted we the flight crew doctor.s. but everyone else “rated” It also included “footprint” copy of us because what part of the body remnants remains intact after most aircraft crashed (yep, the foot in a flight boot).. Also, by xraying the feet, the investigators can tell which pilot was “flying” (had their feet on the rudder petals) when they hit the ground due to broken bones.
But — As I remember from watching all my murder mystery TV shows, the DNA and fingerprint information is only available to law enforcement through the “CODIS?” system which only has data stored for criminals.. In other-words,the cops cannot go back to military and ask for a DNA match or fingeprints in an investigation.
And along comes the “woke” Texas Medical board and the FBI— and now to renew my doctors license, I once again, have to get fingerprinted.
TMB to Start One-Time Fingerprinting Requirements for License Renewals
Starting in February, the Texas Medical Board (TMB) will require physicians who haven’t submitted fingerprints since Jan. 15, 2018, to do so during their next renewal process. The requirement stems in part from a new state law. Read more. TMB to Start One-Time Fingerprinting Requirements for License Renewals

Now - this has a good and a bad side. Good side is that we don’t need any criminals getting “licensed” to take care of folks, whether a doctor, or a nurse, or a pharmacist.. the list goes on. I agree with the concerns that criminals may slip through the system. Heck, as a side story, I had a briefcase with my medical license in it about 1977 as I was preparing to go to practice in the USAF at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. My car was broken into in San Antonio and a briefcase, containing that… was stolen. I reported it to TX State Board and got another license with a different number. Come to find out, we did determine someone was using my license in East Texas.. That is criminal, but it was stopped. Point is, not 100% of doctors are “good guys”.. So I am in favor of the fingerprinting on one hand. We don’t need any criminals or fake doctors working on our kids or us!
On the other hand, the FBI is involved in this… So wait, let me get this straight.. it is not okay to to check a DNA or fingerprints outside of “CODIS” in the military data base, but the FBI is involved in fingerprinting Texas Doctors? And other states? So the concerned side of me wonders who amongst the ever expanding “socialist” all knowing state (as in US Government,,,, not just “State” of Texas..is going to use this information!
Just thought I’d let you know.. Who is next? Lawyers?, Barbers?
Certainly the illegal aliens coming across don’t have to go through all this? Or do they? I have heard it rumored that they do get fingerprinted and a mug shot taken.. but that is only the ones who get “caught”. The great majority are “Get Aways” and are not so vetted. So they REALLY are undocumented.
I didn’t mention my clearances etc in other jobs / (wink) but... TS , yep understand.. more on that over a cup of coffees soon
I just got re-finger printed for my handgun license. Mug shot too. They had a hard time with my fingerprints, more wrinkles than the last time, haha.
