It is so amazing that we could have such division in this country! When you go to your PCP doctor.. do you trust him/her? Of even more importance do you trust their decisions about the recommendations they make about specialty referrals for your condition(s). Why do they do that? Long ago, the “anti-kickback” rules made it quite illegal for payment for a referral. Fortunately I never saw that done. But today, what drives that referral? Usually it is driven by the two year wonder MBAs at the top of that “health care organization” - hospital, medical system etc… that discourages referrals “out of the system”. This link below by the midwesterndoctor does not go there- but realize the potential evil related to a referral.
What if… you have a condition that is easily treated with a medication with minimal side effects but you are referred to a surgeon who was brought up with the mantra “to CUT is to CURE”.. You are going to get an operation. Or the opposite… you have high cholesterol, angina pectoris, a high calcium coronary CT score and you are treated by a doctor who rarely refers to surgeons. Who might just save your life.. Instead, you get a statin which may or may not lower your cholesterol but gives you a serious irreversible neurological problem. Or a natural medicine doctor who really believes in EDTA lowering of cholesterol - - EDTA is to remove heavy metals. Oh and it can cause kidney failure.. and yes I have seen patients lose kidney function- yet still have their coronary disease.. Point is - the patient should be the center of the decision making and the doctor should give them informed consent about the proposed treatment. That was not done with the m-RNA shots (they are not vaccines.) But - the polarization amongst doctors has become very sharply divided. We used to chuckle about the “town and gown divide”….. The “town” doctors ofter didn’t get along so well with the “gown” doctors who were so proud of their academic status and standing. Both sides thought they were smarter than the other. I have sailed through both of those regions.. in the military, VA, private practice, three different academic institutions. I have identified doctors/surgeons in all areas who were superb. as well as the opposite. As you read the midwestern doctor, realize that you may have physicians and surgeons caring for you that are superb or maybe dangerous. You the patient need to make that decision. Realize the division is no longer town and gown. The gap is bigger than ever and there are participants widely different in training and standing on both sides. If you are reading this - you have a clue. If you read the midwestern doctor report below you will understand even better.
Great article!
