Follow the drug money (I am not talking about Cartels south of the border)

Only now are the first whispers coming out about the money trails between drug companies and academic institutions and doctors etc coming out.

The classic description is that those evil doctors are being influenced by the cute drug salesmen girls who bring by pens and paper tablets and donuts. Or heaven forbid enter into the sanctum Santorum of the operating room where the company salesman/technologist is telling the surgeon how to put in that hip replacement or heart valve or pacemaker.. what BS!

Th evil is really that the companies are funding (in the millions) the faculty chairs, and research labs where the end results of research is vetted by the company to ensure the new device or drug performs better than eveything else. In addition, companies sponsor meetings, pay lots for ads in magazines and even advertising on TV. Mainly on channels where “old people” watch frequently… results in grandma walking into doctors office and asking for a prescription for the new wonder drug they just saw on TV.

Only now are people “following the money” and realizing the exhorting to “follow the science” ends up to be a sales pitch and lie many times
