Wait - I thought we were teaching in a medical school
Not humanistic enough? Dogs? Cats? Squirrels? Gerbils?
I got this notice from a Medical School I hold a faculty appointment as a surgeon. Read it carefully. Of concern is they are endeavoring to favor institutions that make this mandatory…. So let’s get out the check list…
Okay…. 1. COVID vaccination, check? 2. Covid booster, check?, 3. Flu shot, check? 4. auto sticker for the faculty parking lot, check? 4. Humanistic course enrollment? - check?
Really, I do wish these schools would get back to the basics, like patient history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, presentation to the faculty..etc.
I think discrimination for any reason is wrong. Unless the student is failing in courses, tests and on the wards as a student. Then the discrimination should be personal help to get them to learn what it requires to be a good doctor. Being clueless for lack of study is not an excuse. Failing that - you want that student to get the degree and be your doctor? Clueless.. comes to mind.
Oh.. note the Harvard course wants the institution to support (that means pay) for helping fund the course.. I guess that 2 BILLION dollar endowment Harvard has is inadequate. I stand to be corrected if the endowment is another amount.
Posted below is what I got…. If you like it, knock yourself .. might be a quiz to follow on rounds.
