Before you get too wrapped around the axle of the potential for a monkeypox outbreak. It is endemic in Africa and after a few cases showed up in Europe folks are nervous. But really? Is that justified.?
Read this article by Dr Malone. Focus on the smallpox portion of the article. Remember, smallpox has about a 35% mortality, it was endemic and our grandparents had to put up with this awful mortality, losing family members to it. And yes, the US Army got rid of Indian tribes by giving them smallpox infected blankets… military atrocities abounded back in the 1800s.. But fortunately, there is cross reactivity with cowpox. Dr Jenner noted the milk maids had smooth complexion and had never been ravaged with smallpox. He determined the “vaccinia” scabs could be inoculated with a sharp needle into the skin, giving a telltale scar on the side of the arm. Yes, those of us in public school in the 1950s got vaccinated - many folks still get this type of vaccination in some small countries. As noted in the article by Malone, Dick Cheney was concerned about weaponized smallpox (and many of us in military medicine shared that concern) Smallpox is airborne and easily transmitted long distance by wafts of air. That in mind, another wave of first responders volunteered to get the re-vaccination. I was one of those. I knew it was an attenuated live vaccine but at the time I wasn’t too worried about it. For me, it was a nothing except I had a card and would be one of the doctors who could then give the vaccine if there was a smallpox outbreak. So there you go you naysayers who think I am an anti-vaxxer. Nope.
Briefly stated, monkeypox is not a big risk. Now I would add, that doesn’t mean some nefarious evil people in labs couldn’t use CRISPr technology and mess with the proteomics of the protein sequences. Then it could be a risk. Have we seen government health agencies and world organizations strive for pandemics to twist through laws and mandates, and sell vaccines to governments for widespread distribution with profits of billions going to Pharma.?? Yes we have. That would be the main risk.
Malone is a scientist. might need a dictionary nearby to understand some of the laboratory technology!. Here it is.
Haven't the slightest experience as my good friend and colleague Dr. Bob but being an American and attending a Mexican Med School I got to experience a lot of Diseases that weren't in my pre med studies in Both my under graduate and my master's here. I can see where you're coming from but again not the experiences you had my Primo.
