Known as NOACs and used widely especially to prevent stroke associated with atrial fibrillation- where the top part of the heart (atrium) is confused and does not beat regularly in synchronized fashion with lower chambers. This can lead to clotting due to sluggish flow through heart. And then if clor breaks off - a stroke! I tell my patients about 15% of Americans over 65 have “a-fib”…

I take one of these medicines and supplement it with an adult aspirin once a week.
