Interesting article! I remember about an airplane shedding a prop landing at Stinson Field in San Antonio - back in the days I was learning to fly, land, do spins, all that stuff. The pilot just said it got really quiet and the plane glided into a landing.
Well, here is another. Except it shed the prop after landing. Should make all pilots wonder about things that don’t sound right.
On the other hand, my instructor pilot this weekend was telling me the awful story about WWII trainers (Stearman airplanes) shedding a prop and since the crankshaft, and the nose were so short that in addition to losing the prop, it usually chopped of a wing as well. That made for a fatal accident.
So pilot buddies, make sure you check this bolts.. and note— I just got a prop balance, maybe another thing to help “look into” those funny vibrations one feels.
Reminds me why I never took to flying. You can’t pull over to the side of the road and pop the hood and see what that funny noise is.
