When I read the book by Mark Levin, I was initially impressed about the convention of states. Our Washington DC swamp is truly a swamp of vipers on both sides of the aisles. Many talk show hosts continue to beat the drum and say good things about COS, but really? Do you want even the possibility a Soros type will be in the mix, or even controlling it. Why don’t we just follow the constitution we have. The globalists and democrats routinely violate the constitution and nothing happens.. but that doesn’t mean we can throw it out and start over. I heard one talk show host the other day say. well it will only address two issues (that were non issues). Point is if the COS were to convene it would be over-run by globalists who want to start over and just codify all the communistic socialist stuff being pushed on us now. Please do not be deceived by fast talking “right-wingers” who have been fooled or paid off.
Phyllis Schlafly always was opposed to COS for the above reasons. Her son Andrew has written a recent superb piece that came through “News with Views” and should be a required read… here is a snippet of quote from his commentary.
“Funded by dark-money globalists, the Convention of States project tries to allow the rewriting of our Constitution by strangers who could be the liberal media, George Soros, Leftists, or a foreign enemy. "Private equity" globalists have amassed more than $11 trillion in the U.S. to push their globalist agenda and even spend many billions to bid on an NFL team. One private equity firm just put Pat Toomey on its board, less than 2 months after he left the Senate where he zealously protected private equity's tax loophole.
Many globalists are enemies of our Constitution, which puts America first and requires a 2/3rds vote in the U.S. Senate to ratify any treaty. The Kansas Constitution has long had a good provision requiring a 2/3rds vote to apply for an Article V convention. (Art. II, Sec. 13) This is similar to the Treaty Clause that globalists hate in the U.S. Constitution. These are good safeguards.
But the Convention of States just indicated that they may seek intervention to overturn the Kansas Constitution, because they failed to satisfy that 2/3rds requirement. We defeated Convention of States for the fifth time this year, in Kansas, and so COS may run to court to get a judge to push their agenda. Liberal judges would also take over an Article V convention as globalists would likewise run to court to override good rules.
Convention of States promoters are already breaking their pledges of a sunset provision in Nebraska and Texas, where COS passed only on the promise that it would sunset after a reasonable amount of time. Globalists cannot be trusted, and in both states they seek a repeal of those good sunset provisions. Some Republicans are so terrified of globalists that they cave into all their demands.”
So for the Texans who read this. Encourage the sun to set on the Texas vote of YES to the COS. A bunch of conservative legislators were fooled in the past.. Let it be gone. Some of us would rather see a “TEXIT” than a “COS” - That would be another topic of course with about as many negatives as positives.
This is why I think a better tactic would be nullification by the states.
