Before I retired I had a good dose of private practice in a hospital run by administrators making millions, who hired doctors as employees of the hospitals. Our committees soon became a rubber stamp for administrators desires. Yes those two year wonder MBA folks who were wonders with excel spread sheets. Folks who used the term “bandwidth “ to describe tasks requiring “FTEs” work requirements. Not the width of a signal on a radio band or the robustness and data capabilities of a radio transponder or a fiberoptic network.
Medically - except for the occasional MD who slipped through, spent Saturday mornings getting an MB A - most admins were in a word “clueless “. Talking, arguing with them in a hospital meeting was civil and not worth the time. The employee doctors knew which side their bread was buttered and all votes were rendered per admin….
So - this is how things like the following could happen. Let’s hope the Texas Senate follows through with some teeth. Let’s hope some trial lawyers with balls take on the megamillionaire hospital organizations.
Twitter might deep six this but it is public testimony from Texas Senate Health and Human Services committee.
Payback is coming - oh wait - Chuck Schumer said that
27 years as a Respiratory Therapist, I have never heard or seen anything like this. I have set up SPAG units and O2 tents ( not used anymore) but this?!! If I were instructed to do this I would refuse.
Doctors, and nurses, who have trained for years, and know what treatments to use, must start their own co-op hospitals. The Administrators must serve them.
